Manchester United still have time to sign some genuine quality before the end of the transfer window.
But we feel that they now need to focus on the most realistic targets. They should perhaps move on from the likes of Sergio Ramos and pin down some more gettable talent.
Nicolas Otamendi
Manchester United have done excellent business this summer and really solidified the central areas of their side.
The additions of Basti and Schneiderlin has given the team a much more substantial engine room at last and Memphis Depay looks as if he could become an explosive number 10.
But they still haven’t addressed their less than world class central defensive partnership.
Daley Blind and Phil Jones have started the pre-season well together but Manchester United need another heavyweight in there if they want to still be competing at the back end of next season.
Sergio Ramos seems as if he is off the menu and Nicolas Otamendi is a wonderful alternative – he scored 6 goals in 38 brilliant appearances for Valencia last season and could make all the difference for Manchester United over the next 12 months, should they make a move.
Marco Reus
With Manchester United needing more quality out wide, according to Louis van Gaal, we would be astonished if they haven’t taken a serious look at this lad, who has been linked to the club in the past.
He’s fast, intelligent, can beat a man, hit a sixty yard pass and also scores loads of goals.
At 26, he is coming into his prime and there is very little not to like about him.
Known as Woody to some of his colleagues, Reus won’t come cheap. But he would offer the consistency that Angel Di Maria simply hasn’t.
So here is our Manchester United XI if they do the best possible business in the remaining week of the window.

Comment: In an ideal world, replacing Mata with di maria in this lineup would make us play the most terrific counter attacking football. But could he be the “surprise striker” van gaal is talking of??…. & what about these frustrating di maria rumours
