We don’t see this one as straightforward for Chelsea.
We don’t like to use the term ‘ageing’ to describe Chelsea’s centre back pairing of John Terry and Gary Cahill.
Because, unless some amazing new product has been invented without us noticing, everyone is ‘ageing’ aren’t they?
Nor are they exactly old – but Chelsea will surely need to think about the future of their defence before too long. And, having such a defensive tactician as their boss, they will already have given this serious thought.
Kurt Zouma will have a part to play in the coming years. And Chelsea are clearly very taken by England prodigy John Stones.
He really is a special player who has the rare ability to marry no nonsense defending with classy elegance.
He reminds us of Rio Ferdinand in terms of his skill set and if Chelsea can sign a 21 year old of that sort of quality they will be absolutely laughing.
But his current club are in no mood to sell and are on firm financial footing.
The deal will surely come down to how much the player wants to move to Chelsea.
The feeling is that Stones won’t agitate for a move and is happy where he is. So we think that he will still be a Toffee by the start of the new season.
But Jose Mourinho can be very persuasive and perhaps he can charm this particular snail out of its shell.
Bookmaker SkyBet certainly thinks a deal could be on as they have Chelsea as odds on favourites at 4/7 to sign the player in this window.
Let’s see the classy youngster in action.
Chelsea fans: Can you see this one happening?
