Arsenal’s new Cesc Fabregas?

Arsenal have gone a bit quiet in the transfer rumour mills over the last week or so as Arsene Wenger seems fairly happy with what he has in the squad already.

We would suggest that if a top class centre forward or defensive midfielder became available within budget then Arsene Wenger would act.

And recent reports suggest that Arsenal may be interested in taking another young Barcelona genius to the club. The Daily Mail reports:

Arsenal keen on £8.5m Barcelona kid Sergi Samper… and there’s good news for Arsene Wenger as midfielder weighs up the move

The 20 year old got 4 games in the first team at Barcelona last season and looks as if he has a decent chance of getting into the side, perhaps as a successor to Sergio Busquets, in the longer term.

But he has little prospect of serious game time this season and he could turn out to be a really nice addition for Arsenal – either on loan or permanently.

Samper is perhaps a little more defensively minded than Cesc but is a similarly silky midfielder with great passing ability and ball control – he makes the game look easy.

The Arsenal manager is clearly enamoured by Francis Coquelin after a great season for the Frenchman.

But Wenger would surely like to have one more specialist defensive midfielder in there and perhaps Samper could be the man.

Having seen him play for Barca last season this is a player of great technical ability.

He may of course struggle with the physicality of The Premier League but he’s very quick and has lovely feet.

He may be able to outwit rather than outmuscle the opposition.

We think he’d be an exciting addition for the Arsenal squad, particularly if they don’t sign another defensive midfielder this summer.

Let’s see the lad in action.
