Far be it for us to question the wisdom of Chelsea’s Special One. But we have rather liked some of the wide men that he has discarded over the last year or so.
Kevin de Bruyne is the most obvious one. He left Chelsea last year and went on to accumulate 16 goals and a whopping 27 assists last season. Now Manchester City are said to want him, even if the price rises to £50m plus.
We also like Mohamed Salah – he’s quicker than a flash of lightning and also has great feet. Perhaps Jose felt that he couldn’t be tamed to do the defending that he requires of his wide men.
Because latest reports suggest that Chelsea are close to offloading him to Roma.
Sky Sports reports today:
Roma are closing in on the signing of Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah, according to Sky Sport Italia.
The deal is apparently for a one year loan with an option to take him permanently for 20m euros at the end of the coming season.
Perhaps, with the De Bruyne deal in mind, Chelsea have given themselves an option to take Salah back at the end of the next loan period.
But that hasn’t been specified in the news report.
Salah only played 19 games for Chelsea in his short stint at the club, scoring twice.
He then moved to Fiorentina, where he scored an impressive 9 in 26 games in Serie A.
But it’s Roma who are closest to a deal and this one looks as if it could drop at any time.
Let’s have a look at him in recent action.
