Manchester City may not have been the busiest club in the summer transfer window so far in terms of volume.
But, in Raheem Sterling, they have signed a player who would surely grace any squad in Europe.
He’s a genuinely exciting player and even if he still has some way to go in terms of finesse, his ridiculous pace alone will be a major bonus for Manchester City next season.
Now they have captured him they are looking at the other flank, according to latest reports. And The Express reckons that they are close to a deal for Kevin de Bruyne:
MANCHESTER CITY are closing in on a deal for Kevin De Bruyne, according to reports
The club’s football director, Txiki Begiristain, is reported to have delayed a flight bound for the club’s pre-season tour to continue negotiations for the Belgium international.
De Bruyne has also been linked with a move to Manchester United but City appear to be at the front of the queue.
The report also states that one bookmaker has shorten the odds on his move considerably:
Meanwhile, Sky Bet have now slashed odds on a City transfer to 1/4.
Meanwhile, The Daily Mail reports that Manchester City will have to pay £50m if they want the lad.
While De Bruyne doesn’t have Raheem Sterling’s electric pace, he possibly has more of the aforementioned finesse.
At 24 he’s already one of the more composed attackers in Europe and certainly one of the more productive.
He got a stupendous 16 goals and 27 assists in 51 games last season for a Wolfsburg side who finished 10 points off the pace in second place in The Bundesliga last season.
These stats would be great for a striker but the fact that he has done it from the wide areas is more remarkable.
He looks as close to a dead cert as they come and his progress over the last year will leave his old club Chelsea scratching their heads.
Let’s see the lad in action.
Manchester City fans: a solid investment?
