Manchester United: So who The Dickens is this surprise striker? Top 5 solutions

Who the heckers?

Louis van Gaal sent the media away from his latest press conference scratching their heads as he responded to a question about whether Manchester United were still looking for a new striker this summer:

“He’s in the process,” Van Gaal said. “It’s not the striker that the media has written about. You have to wait and see. The transfer period is open until 31 August. You have to wait.”

You old tease you!

Thomas Muller is the name that has been most prominently linked of late in the press so perhaps we can rule him out for now.

soccersweep looks into 5 possible options.

Best Option

Cristiano

Ole, Ole, Ole!

Would be the never ending cry of the Manchester United faithful if this lad joined.

He would obviously be the number one choice for most of the fans and surely Louis would love to add his goals and pace to the forward line.

We look at the chances of him joining Manchester United here.

Promising Option

Alexandre Lacazette

With Wayne Rooney looking increasingly likely to play on his own up top next season perhaps a young player of great promise would be the best option for Manchester United.

We think that Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette would be a fabulous signing for Manchester United.

He was the top scorer in the French league last season and, at 24, he’s got a great and long future ahead of him.

Surprise Option

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

At 33 he is no spring chicken but obviously has great quality and the ability to wow the crowd with his spectacular goals.

But he would surely still expect to start every game and that would affect the balance of the team.

Safe Option

Gonzalo Higuain

Would not be easy to prise away from his club.

But Louis van Gaal has already signed a couple of Argentinians and clearly likes the cut of their jib and overall toughness.

A very interesting prospect and a good buy.

Canny Option

Edinson Cavani

He surely won’t come cheap and may again force a rethink on the part of Louis van Gaal.

But Cavani does play on the left of a three at times for club and country and would certainly add goals to the team.
