Report: Manchester United’s latest transfer move surely means the end of Di Maria

Swap

Latest reports, from well placed sources, suggest that Manchester United want to make a quick move for the World Cup winning winger Pedro of Barcelona.

The Guardian reports:

Manchester United poised to trigger Pedro’s £22m Barcelona release clause

While he’s a different style of player to Angel di Maria, we can’t help but assume that the move is being made in order to replace the Argentinian.

Di Maria had a wretched first year in Manchester with his wife seemingly unhappy to live there after an attempted burglary.

Paris would probably suit better and the move looks ever more inevitable.

While Pedro is a wonderful player, we can’t help thinking that Manchester United would be weakened by the swap.

Curtains for Di Maria?

Curtains for Di Maria?

Di Maria is an expensive player in many respects.

He gives the ball away a lot and can blow hot and cold. But he does offer supreme pace and penetration when on form and they are qualities which Pedro lacks.

The Spaniard is much more a neat and tidy craftsman – a studied and sure footed performer who is always in control of what he’s doing.

But would he offer much more than Juan Mata if he was deployed on the right wing next season?

We can’t help thinking that this Manchester United team still lacks pace and the loss of Di Maria could make United even more workmanlike and even less rapier next season.

Manchester United fans: would you be disappointed if Di Maria was swapped out for Pedro?

What about Nicholas Gaitan we wanted to sign, he is a better player than Pedro. We should buy a traditional striker and allow Di Maria to stay in Man U.

I wouldn’t be disappointed if Di Maria was swapped for Pluto, (the dog, not the planet). Anything has to be better than watching him fall over and roll six times, give the ball away, miss when it’s easier to score. All of which he was doing at Madrid which is one reason they got rid of him. Also, his ugly face will fit in a lot more in Paris than in Manchester.
