Report: Arsenal’s Next Great Number 9?

Benzema

Oft linked

Arsenal seem to be terminally linked to some players without ever acquiring them. But Arsenal fans will hope that’s not the case with Karim Benzema.

He’s been mooted as a transfer target for Arsene Wenger almost since he was in nappies and speculation has once more surfaced about a move for the superb striker.

The Daily Mail, among others, once more fuelled the fires by stating:

Just a few days after hinting his summer of shopping may be finished Arsene Wenger promised ‘an exceptional player’ might tempt him.

Wenger’s comments came as stories emerged from Spain linking him with another move for Real Madrid centre-forward Karim Benzema.

Benzema has been at Real Madrid for 6 years and scored 133 in 281 appearances for the club. He’s also hit the net 25 times in 77 games for France.

But his game is about more than just goals. He’s big (6ft 2in) yet quick and deft. He also works extremely hard and links play beautifully from the central striker role.

Benzema - Comfortably one of the top 5 strikers in Europe

We regularly opine that Arsenal don’t have a centre forward who could open up the tightest of games at the top level – this has been their downfall for too long.

But the signing go Benzema would change all that in one fell swoop.

Arsenal’s transfer policy new seems to revolve around the addition of a marquee player each summer.

If Benzema is snared this year Arsenal will be an altogether more serious title challenger in the coming campaign.

Let’s see him in action. Arsenal fans: feasible?
