The 30 year old has won pretty much everything in the game and, after 13 years at Bayern Munchen, he has decided that he wants a new challenge.

A World Cup winner and Champions League gold medalist, the Germany international, of some 111 caps and 23 goals, he was crowned German Player of the Year in 2013.

His arrival will strengthen Manchester United’s midfield considerably and you have to feel that the influence of Louis van Gaal, his ex-boss at Munchen, has played a big part in his decision to join Manchester United.

With Michael Carrick now in his mid-thirties, Schweinsteiger can step into the breach as Manchester United look to improve on last year’s fourth placed finish with no silverware.

We are lead to believe that the deal for Schweinsteiger won’t halt Manchester United’s bid for Morgan Schneiderlin, who may well be heading to America for the pre-season tour if negotiations between the clubs end successfully this weekend.

We shall keep you updated on developments but this is now an agreed deal and the player is expected to join Manchester United on their tour of America.
