Manchester United transfers: Why it’s time to get excited

Louis is under pressure at United

Big Money

Liverpool have done a lot of their summer business and made some excellent signings already. Chelsea have brought in Falcao and Arsenal Cech. But, apart from the early capture of Memphis Depay, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has kept everyone guessing.

But fear not. Manchester United will spend big this summer and most of the fun is yet to come.

Since Louis joined the club Manchester United’s period of relative austerity in the market seems to have come to an end and the feeling is that Ed Woodward and the Glazers are positively encouraging Louis to go out and spend big bucks.

With the £750m Adidas deal giving Manchester United another £75m in disposable income each year, that alone could get them one of the top three players in the world every season.

With RvP and Falcao gone it’s difficult to imagine an exciting striker not being bought. A midfielder will surely come in as a priority and a centre back and right back are also needed. Add a goalkeeper, if De Gea leaves, and possibly a right winger to add even more pace to the front line.

Manchester United may not land all of their top targets this summer. But you can guarantee it won’t end up like the Moyes summer of 2013 when only Marouane Fellaini came in. Because, unlike last year and the small matter of a World Cup to navigate, Louis van Gaal has had a whole summer to line up his ducks and a man with such connections in football is unlikely to let the Manchester United faithful down. Indeed, he said in April:

“Already in January [we began thinking about the 2015/16 season] because we have to prepare our pre-season and Manchester United will go to America,”

“We also think about the scouting of players, the scouting of our own players because we have a lot on loan and then we have to analyse their performances, so it’s a lot of work.”

So with July upon us, and the window now officially open, hold on to your hats. Because Manchester United are surely about to spend big.
