We can’t see this one happening but don’t shoot the messenger.

The Daily Mail has suggested that Arsenal may be keen on a move for Manchester United winger Angel di Maria, who won man of the match when Real Madrid won the 2014 Champions League final. They say:

Despite the club’s wealth of attacking midfield talent, Wenger is not ruling out the capture of another winger this summer.

Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria would be of interest to Wenger who has tried to land the Argentina international on two previous occasions.

…if Di Maria is obtainable, the Gunners would be interested provided a deal would fit into their financial framework.

We think that Arsenal may suit Di Maria in terms of style – he would certainly be given the freedom to express himself – but we think that Manchester United will be reluctant to sell to anyone, particularly a direct rival.

After just one season at the club United will surely want to see an on-field return for their record investment.

The most difficult bit, as most managers will attest, is bringing in world class talent to your club. Manchester United have already done the hard bit, in that context, so they will be very apprehensive about letting him go again after just 12 months.

But, if it did happen, Arsenal could line up with a blisteringly quick side next season. Perhaps they would look something like this.
