You may well have seen the latest speculation about Manchester City making a move for the young Brazilian right back Fabinho.
The Daily Mail reports:
Manchester City consider signing Brazil right-back Fabinho from Monaco… but French club want £15m for 21-year-old
The 21 year old looks like a really interesting prospect and, at 6ft 2in, could become a commanding presence in the Manchester City rearguard. The fact that he has already broken into the Brazil senior side – he has two caps since his debut earlier this year – speaks volumes for his potential and maturity.
But Manchester City arguably have the strongest right backs in the league with Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna. The latter must have been disappointed by how little game time he got last season and Zabaleta himself is regarded as one of the best right backs in the world.
Even if Manchester City have misgivings about these two, it’s not exactly an area that needs urgent reinforcement. But they are perhaps planning for the future and following a policy of signing the best talent, regardless of position, when it becomes available.
If the interest is genuine then it could pan out in one of two ways. Either Fabinho gets loaned straight back to Monaco or another club. Or Sagna gets the boot. We can’t see Pablo losing his place in the team or squad just yet.
Let’s see Fabinho in action. Manchester City fans: better than what you currently have?
