Newcastle preparing €16.9m bid and also linked to another in demand gem – reports

Quality addition

Strong duo

New boss Steve McClaren has his work cut out to win over a section of the Newcastle faithful who aren’t completely convinced by his calibre.

But he could do a lot worse than to start by bringing in these two:

Ron Vlaar

The Birmingham Mail reports that Sunderland and Southampton are in a three way duel to sign the steady eddie, AKA Ron Vlaar.

At 30 years of age there is a strong sense that the Dutchman wants to move on and perhaps end his career with a bang.

Newcastle let in 63 goals last season – only relegated QPR conceded more – and so the centre back role is crucial to their future success.

Vlaar has huge experience and wouldn’t let Newcastle down. What he lacks in pace he more than makes up for with his reading of the game, distribution and calm running of his defence.

Having played with great quality at The World Cup in Brazil 2014 he has passed a recent top level test with flying colours to show that he would be a more than capable signing for The Toon. We think its a no-brainer.

Alexander Mitrovic

The Mirror asserts that:

Newcastle lining up £12million (16.9m Euros) bid for Anderlecht’s Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic

Again there is reported competition for his signature – this time from Swansea and Benfica – but its easy to see why.

At just 20 years of age this lad is already banging in the goals for fun. He’s scored 44 in 90 games over two seasons at Anderlecht. Prior to that he got 18 in 42 games as a teenager for Partisan Belgrade in his home country. And he has broken into the Serbia National side with 13 games and 1 goal since his debut in 2013 as an 18 year old.

There is always a risk in bringing unproven talent in for big bucks. But when you consider his youthful age, Newcastle would likely be able to recoup a decent chunk of any transfer fee if he were to move on. And he certainly seems like an exciting addition.

Let’s take a look at Mitrovic in action. Newcastle fans a worthy signing?

Yeah – All very nice but you should know we don’t buy players – just sell ’em.
