Power and Pace

You would hope that, with a new manager installed, Newcastle’s transfer business will start to intensify over the coming weeks.

But they may have to make a big move in the next few days if they are to avoid something of a disaster. Because latest reports suggest that arch-rivals Sunderland are prepared to pay big for PSV captain Georginio Wijnaldum. The Guardian states:

Sunderland have made an offer in excess of £11m for the PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who is also a target for their north-east rivals Newcastle United.

Wijnaldum - A really impressive athlete

Wijnaldum – A really impressive athlete

Wijnaldum won the Dutch Player of the year award last season, despite the sensational form of team mate Memphis Depay, who signed for Manchester United.

And we think that whoever gets this lad will be doing extremely well for themselves. Because he offers so much. He’s an adaptable midfielder and good all-rounder who also scores goals.

He bagged 18 in 42 games for PSV last season and also made 5 assists. At 24 you feel that there is still improvement to come from a lad who can play through the middle in the engine room, in the hole or even out wide. He’s pacy, powerful and looks to have a good football brain.

He would surely be the stand out performer next season for Newcastle or Sunderland. With 19 caps and 3 goals for his country he also looks like a player who can step up from the Dutch league without too many teething problems.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Newcastle fans: is this lad too good to let slip through the club’s fingers?
