Real Madrid appear to be in a major tug of war with their talismanic centre back Sergio Ramos. What we initially thought to be little more than a spat between player and club appears to have become something more significant, with latest reports suggesting that the player will demand to leave the club this summer.
If this does happen Real Madrid will be left with a giant hole in their defence. At 29 Ramos has served the club with distinction for a decade since joining as a teenager from Sevilla in 2005.
Although Raphael Varane has also been superb when called upon, it’s difficult to imagine Madrid not investing in another seasoned star if Ramos does depart.
And latest reports suggest that they may have targeted a Premier League player. Sky Sports writes:
Real Madrid are still showing an interest in Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny, and are ready to bid 30million euros for the Frenchman, according to France Football.
At 29 Koscielny has become an integral member of the Arsenal team – a classy operator who relies more on technique than power. He’s quick, composed and a lovely passer of the ball. He defends with the minimum of fuss and transmits confidence into the back line.
He’s also become a regular starter for France since his debut in 2011, and now has 21 caps for Les Bleus.
We have no doubt that he would be a solid signing for Real Madrid. But whether they can prise him from The Gunners is an entirely different question. The player seems happy and settled in North London.
Let’s take a look at him in action. Real Madrid fans: can he potentially replace Ramos?
