Manchester United have been linked with some hugely experienced midfielders already this summer, with Arda Turan and Bastian Schweinsteiger chief amongst them.
But we have maintained from the off that one of the best bits of business that Manchester United could do this close season would be to sign Morgan Schneiderlin.
Still only 25, the Frenchman has been one of the stand out performers in The Premier League over the last two years and all the signs point toward a big move this summer.
Sky Sports reports that the player’s future will be decided imminently. They quote the player as saying:
“The negotiations are ongoing and should be completed in the coming days,” he told France Bleu Alsace radio station. “Hopefully before the resumption of [Southampton’s pre-season] training next week.”
The report also states that he still has a choice of clubs with:
Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham all interested in him according to widespread reports.
While the aforementioned midfielders are likely to be in decline before too long, we feel that Schneiderlin can improve for a few more years. And he is already a top player with a proven track record in The Premier League. Signed form Strasbourg for around £1m in 2008, the Frenchman has risen through the ranks to become one of the most effective midfielders in The Premier League. He’s yet another example of Southampton’s brilliant scouting network.
Manchester United should get this deal done as soon as possible because Schneiderlin is likely to be one of the best captures of the summer and could make all the difference in the title race.
