Arsenal: Seminal deal to be finalised in the next week – report

Petr Cech’s move to Arsenal is close but not over the line just yet.

A fee was agreed this week for the player to move from Chelsea, after The Blues reluctantly agreed to allow the keeper to move to a direct rival.

But, according to Sky Sports, the deal won’t be finalised until the customary medical is completed. That won’t be for a few days yet, according to the source:

..the transfer cannot be finalised until Cech has undergone his medical, which is set to take place from the start to the middle of next week.

We think that this is a seminal deal for Arsenal. After fumbling around with substandard keepers for too long they have finally agreed a deal for a stopper who not only has a safe pair of hands but can lead from the back.

At 33 Cech is still one of the best keepers in the world. He has played 114 times for The Czech Republic since his debut in 2002.

He also made an impressive 485 appearances for Chelsea during 11 seasons of unprecedented success for the club.

The emergence, and subsequent return to Stamford Bridge, of the on loan Thibaut Courtois meant that Cech spent most of last season on the bench. But a player of this quality should still be number one and Arsenal have seized the initiative.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that this one gets completed as soon as possible.
