Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is one of the more canny operators in the market. And he doesn’t forget great performances against his team. At the turn of 2015 Chelsea lost 5-3 to Spurs. While Moussa Dembele didn’t start the game that day, he came on for the injured Ryan Mason after 14 minutes and, for our money, was the best midfielder on the park.
He was a titan that day, covering every blade of grass, showing real presence and splaying the ball around from the hub of the team – he basically showed what he was capable of.
Quite why he hasn’t been able to offer that sort of performance on a consistent basis for Spurs is something of a mystery. He certainly has all the qualities to be one of the best midfield generals in the game. He’s physically powerful but also technically brilliant. He sometimes seems a a little too nonchalant to be a really top player.
But this isn’t the first time that Chelsea have been linked a there is seldom some without fire in the transfer market.
With Dembele not always central to the plans of Tottenham perhaps a deal with Chelsea might suit all parties. The Telegraph reports that Chelsea could make a £12m move for the player:
Jose Mourinho in £12m swoop for Tottenham’s Moussa Dembele
At 27 Dembele is a man of great experience. He’s played 61 times for Belgium, scoring 5 goals, and has played over 200 games in England for Fulham and Spurs.
We could image him steppjng up at Chelsea and finally realising all of that superb potential.
Let’s take a look at the lad in a action. Chelsea fans: good enough to play alongside Nemanja Matic in the first eleven?
