Many Chelsea fans get most enthused by the attacking signings and would be more than happy to see another A-lister join the ranks up top after Radamel Falcao arrives.
But the success of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea has always been based on a rock solid back 5. While Thibaut Courtois, Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta look as if they could go on for ever, the centre of defence will need to be looked at.
Gary Cahill does a solid job and the partnership with John Terry has been excellent. But we expect Chelsea to sign another top centre back this summer and reports suggest that they may be about to get an absolute bargain. The Star reckons:

He may not be the Hollywood signing that some want to see at the back. But there won’t be many better signings this summer than Alderweireld. With 47 caps for Belgium, three league title in Holland and one in Spain, we think that this guy is a safe as houses. He’s proven himself in The Premier League with Southampton and we are certain that he could step up and become a vital and utterly dependable cog in the machine at Chelsea.
He’s got great feet, is quietly efficient and, at 26, has his best years ahead of him. We think that he could turn out to be a great Morunho signing.
