Despite some patchy results, Everton’s squad is arguably as good now as it has been at any time in the last decade. But one of the club’s better players over the last few years left after a loan spell a year ago.
The good news is that Barcelona creator Gerard Deulofeu looks to be heading back to Everton on a permanent deal.
The Daily Star, among others, suggests that a deal is now close:
GERARD DEULOFEU is close to clinching a £3m move back to Everton from Barcelona.
The winger was on loan at Goodison Park during the 2013/14 season and has been on manager Roberto Martinez’s radar ever since.
Deulofeu played 29 games for Everton and scored four goals. He went out on loan again to Sevilla last season and had similar stats (3 goals in 28 games).
But it’s not so much his goalscoring that catches the eye as his ability to create, run with the ball and play in between the lines of the opposition midfield and defence.
He’s hard to track and commits players. Furthermore, he looks to have bulked up over the last year and, at 21, could prove to be an absolute gem for Everton and Roberto Martinez over the coming years.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action last season. Everton fans: a no-brainer?
