If he’s over eaten and got smashed every night on highly expensive plonk, for the last two weeks, then it’s well deserved after the baptism of fire that he’s endured in his first year at Old Trafford.
On his return LvG has done an interview for Manchester United TV where he alludes to a summer of transfer business:
‘It is enjoyable because you are preparing a team,’ he said.
‘You have to make a team probably – it’s dependable how much new players are coming.’
‘Last year in the United States of America we have won everything and we played against big, top clubs and then we have to play our first match against Swansea City and we lose – that cannot happen next year.’
So who will Manchester United realistically sign?
Goalkeeper
David de Gea sadly looks off but it’s one of the easier types of player to replace. After all, a top outfield team will leave the keeper with little to do for most of the time.
LvG clearly likes Victor Valdes but, even if he does want to make him the No.1 next season, the lad will need competition and Lindegaard won’t be the man to provide it. Lloris would be a lovely, but costly addition. Asmir Begovic would be a bargain signing and could become a Manchester United great – he’s that good.
Right Back
This is a glaring weakness in the Manchester United side. Antonio Valencia has done OK and should continue to be an important squad member. But a specialist is needed next season and Nathaniel Clyne is by far and away the best choice – hungry, powerful, aggressive, quick and skillful. What’s not to like?
Centre Back
Aymeric Laporte, the wonderfully talented Frenchman, has just signed a new contract with Athletic Bilbao. Miranda looks too old and too expensive. Stones possibly too young. Hummels remains a nice option but his lack of pace may be exposed in The Premier League.
Centre Mid
Manchester United will undoubtedly sign another central midfielder this summer and Morgan Schneiderlin looks to be about as good as it gets in terms of potentially available talent. Manchester United won’t be the only suitors but if they show they really want him then he will come – and what a signing. For our money he’s been one of the best players in the league for the least two years. Would be an absolute gem at Old Trafford. At 25 he can play for another 7 years at the top level at least. Kondogbia, Carvalho and Strootman may also be looked at. Meanwhile Roberto Firmino’s name is hot on the lips of many after his agent revealed that he will move to The Premier League this summer from Hoffenheim.
Striker
With Wayne Rooney fully excepting to start up top next season, we think that the squad harmony would be best maintained by signing a young player with great promise rather than a great player who is coming toward the arse end of his career. Anyone for spot of Lacazette?
