Arsenal: Not again

Pedro - class

Signed

Some players are constantly being linked with moves without ever moving. Khedira and Coentrao – linked every summer. Gerrard – linked for his whole career before moving into semi-retirement in The States. And Schneiderlin – linked for years.

But the biggest linkee has to be Pedro of Barcelona. He’s been regularly linked with a move to Arsenal, which has piqued the interest of many who have seen him play in a very tidy, technically astute and creative way for The Catalans and the Spanish international side.

He’s been linked for years to Arsenal and others. But, low and behold, he’s just signed a new contract at Barcelona and his release clause is 150 million Euros!

The club confirmed Thursday:

“FC Barcelona has announced that they have reached an agreement with Pedro Rodríguez to renew his contract until 30 June 2019.

“The striker’s current contract was due to expire on 30 June 2016. His buyout clause will remain at 150 million euros.”

Arsenal are of course replete with attacking midfielders and wide men. But Pedro would certainly have been a player worth considering with his ability to keep the ball and find a man in a dangerous position, as well as scoring vital goals for club and country.

But it seems that we shall have to wait until next summer at least before the hype about Pedro to Arsenal starts all over again. We simply can’t wait.
