Every fan has to watch his team go through the mire at some stage. But the problems at Newcastle have been particularly protracted and don’t look close to a conclusion any time soon.

With Mike Ashley steadfastly refusing to get out of Toon he now needs to at least get a good coach into the club and reports today suggest that this is now closer to happening:

Steve McClaren is edging closer to becoming the new head coach at Newcastle United, according to Sky sources.

It is understand the 54-year-old former England and Derby County manager held talks with the St James’ Park board earlier this week before going on holiday.

John Carver is a passionate man and clearly loves Newcastle. But, let’s face it, he’s probbaly not even the best manager in his family, let alone The Premier League.

Newcastle need to steady the ship with a decent coach and McClaren is just that. He’s a great man manager with good communication skills who can galvanise the club – attempt to separate the politics from the team as much as possible and get them playing to a decent standard once more.

Because, while player investment is most definitely needed, this squad of footballers should have been nowhere near the relegation zone this season.

McClaren can get these lads playing for him and also develop a good relationship with the fans. We think that he could be an excellent choice for Newcastle.

Newcastle fans: can this appointment change the course of the club or would Jose Mourinho himself struggle to get the team winning with Mike Ashley in charge?

uh… a manager who failed to get Derby into the Premier League? A manager who is known as one of the worst every England managers? A guy who would put on a Dutch accent when talking to press just because he was in Holland? You think that he’d be a good appointment? HA! NO! Vieira would have been a good appointment, Klopp would be a great appointment, McClaren is a terrible appointment.

Great news…!! You have to be on the biggest wind up ever. A serial failure on the slide instead of the exciting Viera or similar. It could only happen to us.
