The bittersweet tale of Raheem Sterling continues to feel decidedly more bitter than sweet for Liverpool fans. But the club is probably making contingency plans right now for the potential departure of the lad and latest reports suggest that Brendan Rodgers has identified a player to replace him.
Liverpool are readying a £14m bid for Real Madrid forward Denis Cheryshev, according to reports in Spain.
The Reds remain fearful that England international Raheem Sterling will leave the club this summer and they are now eyeing up replacements.
According to AS, Brendan Rodgers has identified Cheryshev as the man to replace the wantaway 20-year-old.
He’s an interesting player – something of a hidden gem perhaps. He’s certainly not a household name outside of Spain and Russia amd you might not immediately associate him with Real Madrid. But the Russian international (7 caps) has indeed spent 12 years there, on and off, since joining as a youth from Spanish minnows Burgos.
He has never actually turned out for Los Blancos and has been on loan for the last two years at Sevilla and then Villareal, playing mainly as a left winger. He wasn’t a prolific scorer at either club but, like Sterling, is much more of a provider than a marksman.
Cheryshev, 24, did get into the provisional squad for the Russia World Cup selection, but didn’t make the final cut. Whether the Liverpool boss is about to pull a real rabbit out of the hat remains to be seen.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Liverpool fans: another potentially dubious Rodgers signing or does he look like the business?
