We always say that there is seldom smoke without fire in the transfer market and this one just won’t go away.
Gonzalo Higuain only joined Napoli last summer but the departure of coach Rafa Benitez may further unsettle a player who has been linked with a move away almost since he joined the Italian outfit.
Arsenal have been credited with a serious interest over the last year but Chelsea seem on the look out for top class reinforcements up front and latest tabloid reports suggest that Jose Mourinho is ready to use a large portion of his transfer funds to snare the brilliant forward. The Star says:
Chelsea ready to PAY £30m for Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool target Gonzalo Higuain
CHELSEA have entered the race for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.
At 27 Higuain has been playing at the top level in Italy and Spain for years. He’s also a regular in the Argentine first eleven has scored 23 in 47 for one of the best international sides in the world.
And he’s very much a Mourinho style player. He’s got lovely feet and technique but he’s also the sort of powerhouse striker who would succeed in the rough and tumble of The Premier League.
The big question is how to fit he and Costa into Jose’s system. Neither would be happy to sit on the bench but Chelsea play a strict 4-2-3-1 with just one striker.
But it would be a lovely problem to have.
Chelsea fans: can you see it happening?
