This one represents something of a long goodbye. In the minds of many Manchester United fans, Tom Cleverley is already an ‘old boy’. After a great start to his Manchester United career, he lost the plot under David Moyes and lost his place in the England and Manchester United sides.
In truth you can’t put his dip in form all down to Moyes. He was possibly never destined to make the grade at Manchester United. But he has enjoyed a renaissance over the last year at Aston Villa, to the extent that it’s not just The Midlanders who are now keen. The Liverpool Echo reports:
Everton open talks with Tom Cleverley
The 25-year-old is out of contract at Manchester United and set to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer.
Everton are one of a number of clubs interested in Cleverley and have started negotiations with his representative.
The Manchester United star played 34 times for Villa last season and scored 3 times. But he was heavily linked with a move to Everton before the window closed and it looks as if they are going back for another nibble now.
He’s a busy and athletic midfielder who can pass and move and find the net. At his best he keeps it simple and keeps the ball moving. The report suggests that Everton should find out on the next two weeks whether Cleverley will join the club.
Everton fans: can Cleverly make the team noticeably better or do you see him s a potential squad member only?
