There are lots of decent players that Manchester United could buy this summer. But when you narrow that list down to players who would guarantee to noticeably improve the first team straight away, the numbers fall away dramatically.
And, with the The Champions League beckoning, that is the task facing Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal. The club doesn’t want success to wait for another five years. It wants success now. And that means domestic titles and the latter stages of The Champions League next season.
With that clearly in mind, and a huge budget to play with, Louis van Gaal’s potential targets become clearer. And The Express reports that Manchester United continue to sniff around two such potential objects of desire.
MANCHESTER UNITED are waiting for Real Madrid to make their move for David De Gea before leveraging offers for Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
Real Madrid are set to announce Rafael Benitez as their new manager this week after sacking Carlo Ancelotti last month.
And that should get the ball rolling with De Gea.
United will then ramp up their interest in both Bale and Benzema.
Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid in 2013 for 91m Euros while Benzema joined the club in back in 2009 for 35m Euros.
The immediate question that you would ask abut Benzema is how he and Wayne Rooney, Manchester United’s captain, would fit in together. More than likely it would necessitate a change of formation from the 4-3-3 that Louis increasingly used in the second half of last season. But Benzema is a deadly marksman and a dynamic and highly skilled forward – a great buy for any team.
And Bale would fit into whatever system that LvG could throw at him – on either flank in a 4-3-3/4-4-2, through the middle or even as a wing back.
In one fell swoop Manchester United would be strengthening their side to the point that those aforementioned objectives wouldn’t seem so difficult to reach next season.
