In one of the more interesting stories of the day The Sun states that Barcelona are planning to make a huge bid for Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey.
BARCELONA plan to make a £50million-plus raid for an Arsenal player in the summer — despite their transfer embargo.
If the midfielder goes he will be the NINTH Gunner since 2000 to leave for the Nou Camp
The 24 year old has had another good season – not quite as spectacular as the last tie our when he hit 16 goals in 34 games – but he has been asked to play in different roles this season and still hit 10 in 39, which is of course a very healthy total for a midfielder.
But we would suggest that if they is truth in the idea that Barcelona are prepared to pay this sort of money for the lad, many an Arsenal fan would be happy to cash in and re-invest the money. Because, while Ramsey can do several jobs in the side he isn’t a natural anchor man and that’s possibly what is most needed in the midfield department right now – creativity and goals aren’t a problem.
But while the figure is eye-popping, you still sense that Arsene Wenger would turn it down. He has made it clear in the last months that Arsenal is no longer a selling club and this would be tantamount to a U-turn on that policy, even it it did make good business sense.
As for Barcelona, they are of course in the middle of a transfer ban but, despite them playing really well this season, they appear to be gearing themselves up for a big midfield spend when January comes around.
Arsenal fans: would the club consider a £50m plus bid?
