Manchester United: Major Deal Off – blessing in disguise?

Don’t need him

Although there are no categoric quotes on this one the headline in German media outlet Bild is that Manchester United target Mats Hummels has decided to against a move to The Premier League:

Surprising twist! That pleases millions Dortmund fans: Mats Hummels ( 26 ) has decided not to switch to England!

This one isn’t over yet but we believe that it would be a blessing in disguise if Hummels opted not to join Manchester United. The Jones/Smalling partnership has been laughed off the park at times but, having now played 9 games together in the centre of defence, we see real promise in the partnership.

Smalling and Jones - Great Potential

Smalling and Jones – Great Potential

They are young (23 and 25) and have the potential to form the bedrock of the next great side for years to come. Between them they tick all the boxes – pace, power, guts and enough ball-playing precision to start attacks.

Hummels is a lovely player to watch but we have reservations about whether he has the power to cope with the physical demands of The Premier League. And if he did come then we would never get to see if Smalling and Jones really could be successful. Hummels likes to react to situations rather than snuffing out danger early. He may get his pants pulled down in the pacy Premier League with this style.

We would much sooner see Manchester United sign Aymeric Laporte who is only 20 and can bed in to the side over time. Manchester United should be buying for the future in central defence because – call us crazy – but we think that the present is now looking pretty healthy with the English pairing and Rojo.

Appearently he doesn’t have the bead or heart to play for a top club and push himself to the next level. If you turn down united to stay at a club who’s drowning then you must not have any ambition to become a world class top defender. Good luck staying mediocre
