With Olivier Giroud having his best season at Arsenal, some believe that other areas of the team need to be looked at first. While probably true, we still think that Arsenal must sign a truly world class striker if they want to break through the glass ceiling next season and win the title.
Last summer there was intense speculation about Gonzalo Higuain and, although he’s just one year into his Napoli career, the same stories are starting to resurface. The Daily Mail reports:
Napoli paid £34.5m for Higuain and would want their money back. Arsenal and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest but the player would be prefer to leave for a side in the Champions League.
For our money, Higuain is a cut above Giroud – someone who can make a difference in a really big game when his team isn’t in control. He’s so powerful and hits the ball so cleanly, but also has real elegance to his game. He has some of the same attributes as Giroud but he’s more aggressive, dominant and forceful than the Frenchman.
With 23 goals in 47 ceps for Argentina and 26 goals in all competitions for a Napoli side that is 20 points off the pace in Serie A Higuain is clearly a player who doesn’t need greats around him to do the business. We think that he would thrive at Arsenal and is also coming into the prime of his career at 27. He could offer 4 years of top service, at least, and take Arsenal to a different level.
Let’s take a look at the bull in action. Arsenal fans: is Higuain good enough to make a big difference to the team?
