Newcastle fans will be desperate to get the season over with with their Premier League status intact.
After that the inquest can begin as to why such a big club is in such a shambles. We all have our own opinions one that one but the current situation is untenable.
But the transfer window will hopefully provide Newcastle with an opportunity to spend their profits and one name that is being linked with the club again is that of Charlie Austin.
With QPR now relegated there is surely no chance that their star striker – who scored 17 goals in 31 league games in a seriously struggling side – will stay on.
The Telegraph accordingly reports:
Austin’s departure is almost inevitable given that he has one year remaining on his contract and is hoping to play his way into the England squad for the European Championship next summer. Newcastle United and Southampton are among the clubs believed to be interested.
At 25, the one weakness in his game is that he’s not that quick. But, like Harry Kane at Spurs, when your shooting precision is as good as Austin’s that doesn’t really matter.
If Newcastle can put some pacy providers around him we could be looking at a particularly good signing for Newcastle in what has to be a better season than this one.
Let’s take a look at the excellent striker in action. Newcastle fans: is Austin the right man to help the club kick on next season?
