Due to FFP regulations Jose Mourinho’s second spell in charge of Chelsea has seen much more wheeler-dealing in the transfer market than the first.
But he has taken to it like a duck to water, offloading the likes of David Luiz, Kevin de Bruyne and Juan Mata for huge fees in order to refresh his squad.
The Telegraph reports that Chelsea are leading the race for a player who is yet to become household name but has all the makings of a superstar:
Chelsea are hopeful of winning the race to sign Brazil’s latest wonderkid Robert Kenedy this summer as part of a new youth recruitment drive.
Kenedy has attracted the interest of Manchester United and Inter Milan over the past 12 months, but Chelsea are confident they are in the driving season to land him.
At 19 the lad has been something of a sensation in his homeland, where he has played 36 times for Fluminense and scored 5 goals.
He’s also turn out for the Brazil U21s 7 times. He has been likened to fellow Brazilian Hulk due to his powerful physique and his penchant for cutting in for the right wing to hit the ball on his stronger left foot.
In 2013 he admitted his interest in Chelsea:
“Of course I am happy to play for Fluminense but it is my ambition to one day play in Europe”
“I like Chelsea because of players like Oscar and Ramires. I like the whole team.”
The same report suggests that Chelsea are also in for Kennedy’s international colleague Nathan de Souza from Atletico Paranaense for around £4.5m.
Let’s take a look at Kennedy in action. Chelsea fans: can he one day fill the boots of the legendary Dider Drogba?
