Nothing can be taken for granted in the ruthless world of football. But Memphis Depay to Manchester United always had a certain ring to it.
Louis van Gaal, who gave Depay his chance to shine at The World Cup in Brazil 2014, loves to bring youngsters through and this signing will surely be the most totemic capture of the Dutchman’s tenure – the start of a new era for Manchester United.
Equally, Depay will relish the ample opportunities that he will get to shine at United and he seems tailor made for their style of play.
The other signing that has an air of inevitability is Mats Hummels to Manchester United. He’s been mooted by many as the perfect successor to Rio Ferdinand – a defensive artist who can hold the fort and command the back line, but also offer the sort of distribution that has been lacking since The Rolls Royce departed.
There is constant ‘will he won’t he’ talk about Hummels to Manchester United. But we think he is nailed on to join the club and so do Sky Sports, whose bookmakers have Hummels as odds on at 2/5 to arrive at Old Trafford this summer.
Hummels can stop the rot in defence and also offer the sort of platform for short passing out of the defence, that so agrees with the philopshy of Louis van Gaal. Barring the last minute intervention of a club like Real Madrid, we think its safe to assume that Hummels will also join the club this summer.
Let’s see the lad in action. Manchester United fans: no-brainer?
