Asmir campaign. A smear campaign. Get it? Tough audience…

Anyway, there has been talk in the British press this week about how Real Madrid may look elsewhere for their next number one.

It had long been sensed that Madrid would sign United keeper David de Gea. The Spaniard, who made his name at cross city rivals Atletico, has just a year left on his current, five year, contract and many believe that the sensational 24 year old is holding out for a move to Los Blancos.

But various reports have suggested that, with Manchester United desperate to hold on to him, Real Madrid will go elsewhere.

The Guardian speculated that Asmir Begovic could be an option for Madrid. At 27 this guy has been an absolute monster in between the sticks for Stoke and we believe that he could play for any team in the world.

Very much like Petr Cech, he’s big, powerful and makes himself the size of a house when strikers are bearing down on him. We think that United themselves may go for the big Bosnian if Real Madrid do get De Gea.

The other obvious target is Hugo Lloris. The same, highly respected, news outlet reported this week that Lloris wants Champions League football. He’s very unlikely to get it next season with his current club, Tottenham, and he’s one of the very best players outside of Europe’s elite competition.

It’s difficult to separate these two in terms of class but Lloris is the more spectacular of the two – he is seen as a ‘sweeper keeper’ in England because he loves to use his feet outside the box – and, for that reason he may be slightly better suited to Madrid. But both would be superb additions to the team.

Let’s see LLoris in action. Real Madrid fans: keen?
