Not Falcao: Manchester United’s worst player vs Chelsea

Ok, we could have given this dubious accolade to a few players. Although the team performed well again, in general, Ander Herrera was expensive in the anchor man role and gave the ball away dangerously a couple of times. But, even when he’s a little under par, he always makes things happen to so he avoids the wooden spoon.

Radamel Falcao too, epitomised his painfully disappointing spell at Manchester United with a performance against Chelsea which didn’t lack for effort but, once more, failed to hit the mark. Had he scored early doors then perhaps we would have been talking about him as a match-winner. But you do feel that his chance at Manchester United has now gone.

You may find this cruel considering he only had a cameo in the game. But, in our estimations, the worst player for Manchester United vs Chelsea was Angel di Maria.

With 20 minutes to go he was supposed to provide the sort of penetration that would be decisive. But, against tired legs, he was so selfish with the ball. Every time he received possession he seemed to want to beat every member of the opposition on his own and, as usual, it didn’t work.

What Manchester United needed was his pace and some intelligence to unlock the opponent. But Di Maria, as has been the case of late, was trying too hard. Instead of the pass and move football that could have undone Chelsea he made things too complicated and ended up flat on his face.

Di Maria – PONY Yet again

It’s such a shame that his career is stalling at Manchester United. But the reason that Ashley Young is in the side is because he’s a true team player. He’s on form and he is finally making the right decisions with the ball. Angel Di Maria has great physical attributes. He’s fast and has brilliant feet. But he needs to use his brain more.

At this point, Di Maria looks further from the first eleven than ever.

Manchester United fans: is there a future for Di Maria at the club beyond this summer?
