These derby teams read like a who’s who of world football. Gone are the days when Stuart Pearce struggled to put out eleven fit players and Manchester United carted out Mikey Phelan for the anchor man role.
We take a look at the possible elevens on Sunday and their comparative values
Manchester United
There most expensive player is of course Angel di Maria and he may not even get a start. But we think that he might just make the team for Sunday after some decent cameos of late. Radamel Falcao is another who would cost a fortune if signed permanently but that prospect looks distant right now. Now that Louis has found his best Manchester United eleven the club are using most of their big money signings after a period in which it looked as if they had invested very poorly in the likes of Mata and Felliani. Moyes vindicated?
Manchester City
Manchester City have spent more than virtually any other team in the land (apart from United of course). But they have also spent as wisely as anyone. Some big money signings, like Jovetic, Mangala and Fernando, haven’t yet become indispensable to the team, but there is still time. Players like Toure, Silva and Aguero have been worth their weight in diamond.
Manchester United and Manchester City fans: who has spent their budgets more wisely?
