Manchester United need all the help that they can get for this vital derby game at the weekend so they will not feel too sorry to hear the news that Manchester City’s new big money signing, Wilfried Bony, will miss the game on Sunday.
There was a sense that the new boy would have recovered from the knock that he sustained before the Crystal Palace game, in time to face The Reds. But Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini confirmed, in his press conference on Friday afternoon, that Bony is definitely out.
“Stevan Jovetic has a muscle injury. Bony twisted his ankle and knee before Crystal Palace. He won’t be ready for this game.” The Manchester City Twitter feed quoted him as saying
Bony has only hit the net once in 7 appearances for Manchester City, since joining the club in the winter window. But Manchester United will be well aware of his class and power and it is only a matter of time before he and Sergio Aguero hit it off up front.
While certain partnerships don’t work because the strikers are too similar, we feel that the power and hold up play of Bony, twinned with the pace and technique of Aguero can be a match made in heaven before too long.
Meanwhile, Manchester City captain Vincent Company is another doubt for the game with a hamstring strain.
Manchester United can go four points clear of their cross city rivals with a win on Sunday (Kick Off 16:00 Local Time).
