The window isn’t yet open but that meticulous operator, Jose Mourinho, is getting his bidding in early for Chelsea as the BBC reports that the club has made a bid for a striker:

Chelsea have made a bid for Japan international striker Yoshinori Muto.

The 22 year old has played 10 times for Japan, scoring once. He’s also started the Japanese season on fire, scoring 3 times in 4 games for FC Tokyo.

He hit the net 13 times last season and was named in the Japanese team of the season.

There remains a slight stigma attached to Asian talent. Some Chelsea fans may be underwhelmed by the idea of signing a Japanese player when they are accustomed to seeing big and powerful centre forwards at the club. Some may even think that this is some kind of marketing exercise to improve Chelsea’s cache in the far east.

But, at 5ft 10in, Muto is a strong lad and like many of the new generation of Japanese players, he’s extremely tidy on the ball. Great technique, twinned with a powerful shot and excellent compass for the goal means that this one could work out well for Chelsea.

You would imagine that his move to the club is now inevitable. When a team of Chelsea’s status comes calling, few players from the J-League would be able to resist.

Let’s take look at the lad in action. Chelsea fans: Can he eventually make the first team?
