Chelsea Transfers: Surely you aren’t going to sign this guy Jose?

Sunday Fun

It has been reported that Chelsea will offload Petr Cech in the summer. While this would represent a painful move for most Chelsea fans who have enjoyed the tremendous service of the 32 year old, it does feel like an inevitable consequence of the form of Thibaut Courtois.

Indeed, it feels cruel to keep such a great servant of the club on the sidelines after performing heroics for Chelsea for so long. So, we reluctantly accept this eventuality.

But latest reports suggest he will be replaced at No.2 by Rob Green!

The Mail states

Chelsea are set to move in for Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Rob Green to act as No 2 to Thibaut Courtois with Petr Cech on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

The immediate reaction to this story is horror. To let such a magnificent specimen leave the club only to be replaced by a man who, you might rather cruelly argue, resembles a 20 tabs a day, county cricketer who hoards newspapers at home, would be tantamount to negligence.

We josh of course. On the surface, it may represent an underwhelming move. But, in fact, Green is a solid player who may relish the chance to be at such a big club – even if he only has a bit part role. What other gettable position could offer him the slightest chance of turning out in a Champions League final?

He wouldn’t be our choice – a young keeper with promise might interest us more – but perhaps a more experienced pair of gloves would be a safer option should Courtois get crocked for a big game.

Let’s see the lad in action. Chelsea fans: would you be happy with such a signing?
