Back to their best

It’s amazing the difference a month can make. Less than four weeks ago one pundit alluded to tactical bankruptcy‘ in relation to one Van Gaal tactic – and many agreed. But, just a few weeks later, the guy is a total football genius.

But while many went cold on his predecessor, David Moyes, early doors, the majority of Manchester United fans knew they had the right man this time around, even in the toughest times. There certainly haven’t been too many dissenting voices amongst soccersweep readers, in relation to Louis.

Now Manchester United are beginning to look like the form team in The Premier League. Noone would want to play them and LvG may be left wishing that the season had another ten games to run. Even he talked, in his press conference Friday, of the title chase not being mathematically over for Manchester United.

“Can we still win the title? Mathematically, we can still do it.”

There is a huge feel good factor at Old Trafford and LvG was jovial with journalists on Friday. In terms of injuries, he said that Chris Smalling is a big doubt with illness. Meanwhile RvP is close, but not quite ready. But Luke Shaw should be available for selection.

But with Daley Blind playing out of his skin at left back, it would take a bold man to bet against him retaining his place in an unusually settled looking Manchester United side.

We expect Marcos Rojo, quietly impressive since joining the club, to take Smalling’s place alongside Phil Jones in the centre of defence. Otherwise the only real question is whether Angel di Maria or Ashley Young gets the nod at left wing.

We would, rather unfairly on form, start Di Maria – Manchester Untied only have 8 games left to decide whether to retain this hugely expensive and hitherto disappointing summer recruit. So it would surely be prudent to give him game time and the chance to prove himself in the red shirt.

So, here is our XI for what should be a comfortable win against Aston Villa.

Manchester United fans: agreed?
