Surprise summer signing for Manchester City?

Changes afoot

With Manchester City again coming up short in the European stakes this season questions have already been asked about whether Manuel Pellegrini is the man to take this fast-tracked club forward.

Many believe that you can’t buy the sort of experience needed to win The Champions League and that the defeats are a necessary part of the learning curve.

But try telling this to an impatient Manchester City board who are clearly hellbent on immediate success. We wouldn’t be at all shocked if Manchester City started the next campaign with a new boss and the latest name to be thrown into the hat is that of Pepe Guardiola. The Express reports:

MANCHESTER CITY will attempt to lure Pep Guardiola from Bayern Munich at the end of the season before making a decision on current manager Manuel Pellegrini’s future.

This may come as something of a surprise to those who perceive Guardiola as right in the middle of a big project with Bayern Munchen. He’s in his second season at the German giant and, while he has restored his side to a dominant position in the league, he’s yet to deliver the biggest trophy of all.

Perhaps the perfect time for Pep to take the reins at City would be after next season, when he has had three years at Bayern Munchen. But money talks and there are many variables which could push Guardiola in the direction of Manchester City this summer. He hasn’t always met with universal approval at Bayern and another failure in Europe could test the patience of the Munchen board.

We think that Pellegrini should be given another year but have little confidence that he will.

Manchester City fans: who would you like to see in charge of the club next season?

‘But try telling this to an impatient Manchester City board who are clearly hellbent on immediate success. ‘

If only the anonymous ‘author’ could back this up with even a modicum of fact.
