It’s time to make a few chances in the team while Manchester United are still in control of their Champions League destiny. We applaud Louis van Gaal for selecting RvP and Falcao in the same team – they are, after all, two of the best players in the world at their best.
But we can see that they aren’t playing well together. There is little to no link up play and RvP appears more like a scrapper than a master marksman these days.
We think that now is the time to drop RvP. Falcao has possibly been the poorer of the two lately, but he needs a run up top on his own to prove, either way, whether he represents the medium-term future of Manchester United’s strike force.
And, in the midfield, Ander Herrera is long overdue a run in the team. Manchester United brought in three midfielders in the summer yet they still seem to bypass the engine room with worrying frequency. Perhaps Ander Herrera is the missing link – at a cost of £30m surely it’s worth giving him a run out.
Mata has failed to provide the spark in midfield. Di Maria is wasted in the middle. And Rooney needs to play further forward. So let’s see what Herrera can do. It will be a physical battle against Preston in the 5th Round of the cup (Kick Off Monday 16th February 19:45 Local Time) but Manchester United need to make their class show. Herrera can be the man to pick out the vital passes in a game which has banana skin written all over it.
So here is our best XI vs Preston. Manchester United fans: let’s have your teams
