It’s been a very quiet window for Manchester United, with only the early signing of Victor Valdes to show for a month of open trading. But reports today suggest that a transfer of the ideal player may be forthcoming.
Although an exact time frame isn’t given for the transfer, The Daily Mail reckons that Manchester United are inching closer to a deal for the sensational German international Mats Hummels.
Manchester United edge closer to Mats Hummels transfer…
Borussia Dortmund are laying the groundwork for the potential departure of Mats Hummels to Manchester United.
Hummels has underlined in recent days that he intends to see out his contract but it is understood meetings have taken place outlining a price to United of around £37million.
We are in the midst of a period of serious concern about Manchester United. When you look at the money that they have spent you would expect at least one new signing to be performing out of his skin for The Reds this season.
But while Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw have all had their moments, none of them has been an unbridled success so far.
But perhaps this comes down to shaky foundations. Certainly the distribution out of defence has been really poor for Manchester United this season. And while £37m seems like an awful lot of money for a defender, it’s much better value than the same amount which was spent on Juan Mata.
Because we feel that Hummels can be a catalyst for success in this team. He will stop all of the fiddling about in defence and make the back line solid again.
But Hummels is also a fantastic passer of the ball. And it is a quality that has been severely lacking at Manchester United since the departure of the brilliant Rio Ferdinand.
We would go as far as to say that if Manchester United can sign Hummels in this window then they are guaranteed a top four spot. But with just two or three days left in the January transfer window, we aren’t particularly optimistic about a deal at this point.

It’s unfortunate that January window is getting off without hope that Man u will sign any defender,a long time poem being recited by coach and fans, then top four finish is “unachievable dream”
