It of course stands at the £50m, or thereabouts, shelled out for Fernando Torres from Liverpool in January 2011.
But reports today suggest that Chelsea will battle it out with Manchester United and Manchester City for the services of Paul Pogba this summer.
The Mirror reports:
Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City will join a £75million race to land Paul Pogba this summer.
Juventus are ready to cash in on one of the hottest young prospects in world football – and Pogba has already been dubbed “the 100million euro man” in Italy.
At 21 years of age Pogba has so far played for a highly competitive France side on 22 occasions, scoring 5 goals already for Les Bleus. He’s also made a huge impact on club football at Juventus. Since he joined from Manchester United in 2012 for about £800,000 in compensation, he’s become the main man at the club playing 110 games and scoring 21 goals.
It’s the broad and rare skill set that makes him so valuable. Pogba has the touch of a wizard and he can open up defences with his guile. But when you add his precision in the shot, running power and overall toughness in the midfield you have a player who is surely tailor made for The Premier League.
With Manchester City planning for life after Yaya Toure and Manchester United in need of energy in that midfield you would imagine that Chelsea would have a major fight on their hands to snare this lad.
Let’s take a look at him in action. Chelsea fans: where would he play?
