This one has been gathering pace over the last few days. Most of us weren’t expecting Chelsea to add any big names over the January window but, if Andre Schurrle leaves the club, it seems that Chelsea might want to replace him immediately.

The Daily Mail has reported:

Fiorentina have rejected Chelsea’s outline offer of £20.6million for wideman Juan Cuadrado.

The Italians have insisted they will not accept bids below the £26.8m release clause in the Colombian’s contract but Chelsea will hold further discussions over the next 24 hours.

The report suggests that Chelsea are still awaiting offers for Salah and Schurrle and the completion of the Cuadrado deal could hinge on the departures of these players, who are of similar style and position.

But the signing would represent a massive coup for Chelsea, who already have great quality in the wide areas. But Cuadrado would not be coming to Chelsea to sit on the bench.

He has been one of the stand out performers in Serie A over the last year or so and gave a solid showing at The World Cup in Brazil with Colombia, for whom he has 37 caps. He’s extremely hard working but marries that with great pace and ability to penetrate that the back line of the opposition almost at will.

His physique and pace make him an excellent bet to be a success in The Premier League and he could yet make a big difference to the title race.

Let’s see some highlights. Chelsea fans: is he a big upgrade on Schurrle?
