Manchester City are reportedly already thinking about the inevitable demise and departure of one of their best players ever. And, considering the exceedingly rare skill set of Yaya Toure, you would imagine that it’s not going to be an easy job.
We have spoken about who could fill the role of Toure and the names of Barkley and Koke have been mentioned as creators who could also provide the driving force in midfield that the Ivorian does so imperiously.
Another name which has oft been mentioned, and is linked again today is Paul Pogba of Juventus.
We say that The Independent says that The Express says:
Paul Pogba to replace £20m PSG target Yaya Toure in the summer
You would imagine that it would be doubly amusing to sign a player who United let go for peanuts just a couple of years ago. But is he good enough to fill the shoes of Yaya? In terms of goal threat, yes – Pogba scores great goals and you would imagine that he can be trained to repeat the trick somewhere near as regularly as Toure.
He also has a great engine and will get more powerful as he matures – he’s still only 21 right now.
We would have to say that, overall, we aren’t sure whether Pogba will ever be as good as Manchester City’s current midfield dynamo. But perhaps noone will. And, as replacements go, Pogba isn’t too shabby.
Given the choice of the three mentioned here, we would still go for Barkley due to his brute strength, power and the ability to drag his team through the toughest of ties. But Pogba would do nicely thank you very much.
Let’s see some of his better moments. Manchester City fans: worth the cash?
