Arsenal will be buoyant after beating one of the the big boys in a surprise result at The Etihad on Sunday. And we saw that dangerous, gleeful smile of Arsene Wenger in the post-match which we have seen so many times before. It said ‘this time we really have progressed.’
Hopefully that Arsenal manager will not be so buoyed as to think that he doesn’t need to sign another defender this month.
And latest reports from the well-placed Guardian suggest that it might not be too long before a signing is made.
The man in question is Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista and The Guardian says:
Brazilian says his agent is in talks with Arsène Wenger’s side
And quotes the lad as saying:
“Whether I go to Arsenal or stay at Villarreal, I won’t lose my head,” Gabriel said. “I’m very calm. My head is at Villarreal and I’m very focused. My agent is working on making sure I continue being calm.”
This guy looks like a potentially excellent buy. The 24 year old stands at 6ft 1in and change. He’s a centre back who joined Villarreal in 2013 and has started to prove himself to be very solid and mobile of late. There is still room for improvement and whether Arsenal would have work permit issues with the transfer remains unclear.
But, in footballing terms, we like the look of the lad. Let’s see him in a action.
Arsenal revellers. Good enough?
