If you want to find out why your computer is squelching then you go to an IT man. If your house is flooded then you get a plumber. And if you want to know which defender to buy then you should surely ask one of the best who has ever played the game.
Rio Ferdinand is the finest centre back that we have ever seen in The Premier League – bar none. He made defending into an art form and, in his pomp, he was almost as exciting as watching a top striker. The way that he bossed the defence, not through power but speed and skill, was just sublime to watch.
He made defending look so easy and strikers look so stupid. If Manchester United had Rio in his prime now they wouldn’t have any problems in defence at all.
So who does he reckon Manchester United should buy? Well, he has tweeted to say that Louis should go after Diego Godin of Atletico Madrid.
Godin has been linked to Manchester United and it’s easy to see why. The Uruguay international, capped 86 times by his country, is a battle-hardened and canny veteran of the game. At 28 he is in his absolute prime and has similar qualities to Manchester United greats like Bruce and Vidic. Basically he’s a hard so and so who hates to lose.
He would be fantastic addition to the Manchester United side and we think that Rio has go it right with his suggestion. Now can someone at United sort out a decent, and well overdue, send off for the lad already?
