There has been talk of late about Chelsea dispensing with the services of German international Andre Schurrle.
The impressive 24-year-old World Cup winner, who has played 42 times and scored 17 goals for his country, hasn’t really put a foot wrong since joining Chelsea.
But with Eden Hazard and Willian in competition for the wide berths, Schurrle has found it particularly difficult to get into the team as a regular starter this term.
He has played 17 times and scored three goals for Chelsea this season but there has been regular chat that he will leave the club.
Some rumours have suggested that he might go to Schalke for £23 million. And The Express reports:
Jose Mourinho to offload Andre Schurrle and Mohamed Salah to fund £20m Raphael Varane bid
We really like the player and think that he shows why Chelsea have such a good chance of winning things this season. With this sort of strength in depth an injury to a crucial player like Hazard would be partly offset by the presence of Schurrle.
The one thing which he doesn’t have, and that Jose likes so much from his wide men, is blistering pace. That is perhaps the reason why he hasn’t played more. But he is still a fantastically efficient footballer who rarely wastes a pass and has great distribution. And, having met him on Christmas eve 2013, in a restaurant in London’s Shard building we can confirm that he is also a really nice and humble guy.
If Chelsea do offload him then Jose will surely add another wide man in the not too distant future – and expect the next guy to have more pace.
Let’s see Schurrle in action. Chelsea fans: would Mourinho be making a mistake if you let Andre go?
