We have been going on about this for months and now it’s been as good as confirmed by someone who should know all about defending.

Luke Shaw has been unlucky so far in his Manchester United career and this has lead some to suggest that he was overpriced and not worth the cash paid.

But we think he’s going to be an absolute legend at the club. He’s got every quality needed to be a top player and once he gets a run in the team we are going to see some special performances.

And who better to critique him than arguably the best Manchester United left back of all time? Denis Irwin is quoted as saying in The Express:

“Injuries held him back a bit but once he got in, he looked really strong and don’t forget he is only a boy. He has been very unfortunate with injuries, but he will be a fantastic player for us.

One of the reasons Manchester United paid so much money for Shaw was because of his potential longevity in the team and Irwin says:

“I guarantee you that. I have no doubt at all that he will be our first-choice left-back for years to come.”

We couldn’t agree more. Shaw can do the defending part in his sleep. But his real forte is going forward – he is not only quick and talented enough to beat his man but he also has a fantastic delivery off that left foot.

We love it when clubs sign really high quality young players – they are the best ones to buy because they excite – they improve week on week and you don’t know quite where that improvement will end. Think Fabregas at Arsenal and Ronnie at Manchester United. Luke Shaw is going to be a very exciting investment indeed for Manchester United.

Let’s see his better moments for Manchester United
